frequently asked questions.
1. OH MY GOD! THIS SKIN IS GORGEOUS. WHO'S THE MAKER?
A. Hahah. Well! The fantastic Alex made the beauty of Summer Avenue. ♥ You can easily comment on how purtyful it is by sending her a message or letting us know in the cbox. She'll never admit it, but the compliments make her smile like whoa. (:
2. WHAT'S THIS SITE ABOUT, EXACTLY?
A. I take it you haven't read the other threads? First of all, I suggest going to the Story Line and reading it. It's highly significant if you truly wish to know what's going on in the world of Summer Avenue. It's basically what the site's all about and helps you figure out where your character can play in. If you have further questions, or do not understand, you can contact a staff member and ask.
3. SO.. I JOINED. NOW WHAT?
A. Upon joining you should have read, or be in the process of reading, the above thread I linked you to along with the Rules. Afterwards, you should check out the Species to inform yourself of them. At that point, you should have your character in mind enough to start your application (you can either choose to complete a Freelance Application or a Strict Application). Once you've finished it, you will have to wait until a staff member checks on it. If you're accepted, you should follow the claiming and such.. once that's finished, you should be able to start roleplaying!
4. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND SIRING. WHAT IS IT?
A. Firstly, a sire is basically a forefather; ancestor. A child, in the Summer Avenue world, is considered to be the person that the sire changes into his/her species. The process in which the sire changes the child is called siring. Siring creates a family dynamic that Summer Avenue wants to achieve/keep on the site. It helps all of our new members feel welcome and gives you a chance a different chance at roleplaying! When you get a sire, you join their pack/coven/etc. and become part of their family - that is what siring is. If this doesn't completely answer your question, I'm sure the Siring thread itself will!
5. HOW CAN MY HUMAN CHARACTER GET INVOLVED?
A. If your character stays human, then there are plenty of oppertunities for him or her to get involved! Not everything has to be about the species that are around. Endless possibilities. Humans and the other species actually co-exist. So use your imagination, yo.
6. SINCE WE CAN FIGHT IN ROLEPLAY, CAN MY CHARACTER DIE AS WELL?
A. Yes. However, it's entirely up to the roleplayer to decide if your character dies or not. But, without a doubt, he/she will have injuries of some sort. You cannot escape a battle unscathed; it's impossible even for the strongest species. (Yes, you can only kill different species certain ways, but that does not mean they cannot be hurt. They CAN be.) We will not force death upon your character, unless it had already been pre-planned for that character.
7. WHERE ELSE IS IT POSSIBLE FOR MY CHARACTER TO DIE?
A. Anyplace, really. Your character can be killed by someone else or by natural causes. But, this is all plot-choice. The death of your character is up to you, as the roleplayer. However, once your character has truly died to never be seen alive again, it's final. You are not allowed to resurrect your character after killing it off. So, you need to be sure that you no longer wish to play them. (Also, if your character is a different species from those that can die of natural -human- causes, then you must come up with an idea as to how they actually die.)
8. I DON'T WANT A CO-ORDINATOR POSTING IN MY ROLEPLAY THREAD, WHAT DO I DO?
A. Well, it's actually simple. All you need to do is place 'NC' in either the subject of the thread, or somewhere in the first post where it can be noticeably seen. If a co-ordinator doesn't see it, because it blends in with the post, then you cannot blame them for interrupting your thread. You need to make it visible to everyone. (The easiest way is by placing it in the subject title and the info/notes area on your post.) --- Don't know what 'NC' actually means? It refers to the term, No Co-ordinators. This means that this thread is not to be interfered with by any co-ordinator personalized thread twists. (For more acronyms, please see the Summer Avenue Lingo thread again.) If you don't know what a co-ordinator is, then you can read the post on Explained Staff Positions.
9. WHAT IS A "PRIVATE" THREAD?
A. A "private" thread is a pre-planned thread that will be only open to the person/people that it's created for. Say Joe starts a thread and tags Melanie and Susie in it, also stating that it's "private" or "closed." That means that the thread is only open to those two people and no one else. This, however, does not mean that a co-ordinator will not be posting in your thread. Read the above question&answer above to go about not having a co-ordinator posting in your thread. (Also! "Private" goes for people, not for the actions. It does not mean it's private where no one else can read it. NO. Anyone will still be able to read it, so be sure to follow the rules.)
10. CAN I CREATE MY OWN PACK/COVEN/ETC.?
A. Yes! You can create your own! For each race, it's called something different mostly. If you are interested in creating one for yourself and managing your own, please go to the Family board. You should read the guidelines first and make sure you are elligible to create your own, after all, we don't want a million packs with no one in them. That wouldn't be any fun, now would it?
11. HOW DO I BECOME A SIRE?
A. Any leader of any pack/coven/etc. can be a sire. However, you also have to have at least a Lieutenant rank to be a sire. If you are not, don't fret, it's easy to get there! However, if you are that rank and you don't have your sire status yet, then please go post in the Siring thread, using the form listed there to get your name put on the list.
12. CAN I BE A STAFF MEMBER?
A. Sure, as long as there are still open positions. In our Staff Positions thread, you can find the current staff and if there are any available spots. Follow the guidelines posted and the staff will decide if you'll be a good fit or not for working on Summer Avenue. If there aren't any positions open, then you'll have to wait until something opens up again. And that will be announced for everyone to see. There isn't a waiting list, either. If you apply right after someone's selected (without realizing it, of course), then you'll have to re-apply for it if/when the position opens back up.
13. EVERYONE ELSE IS SO GOOD AT ROLEPLAYING, HOW DO I GET BETTER?
A. You can get better by roleplaying, too! That's the easiest way. Read other people's threads and get a feel for what it is that they do. Usually, they describe the setting, time, and their character. Afterwards, they continue using the actions of their character. This is a literate roleplay, so we suggest that you know how before applying. The main parts of roleplaying are: details, information, actions, and speech. Try and figure out what other people have in their posts that you don't. If you still find yourself lacking in roleplaying skills, then I suggest looking up helpful tips and tutorials on doing so. Caution's Learn to Roleplay board has quite a few helpful threads. (The list itself can be confusing, but you can either go there or check out various threads within the board.)
14. HOW DO YOU BATTLE IN ROLEPLAY? WHAT IF THEY CHEAT?
A. Well, you see, we have an entire thread dedicated to just this called The Glory of the Battle that explains all the rules and how-to's of Summer Avenue's version of roleplay battling. As for the second question, no one can cheat. If someone does attempt to, a Battle Moderator, Moderator, or Head Moderator will see this and catch them. They will be given the appropriate consequence for doing so, so don't fret!
15. CAN I BUY SOMETHING IN THE POINTS SHOP AND LEND/GIVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE (OR ANOTHER ONE OF MY CHARACTERS)?
A. No. We will not allow this because the points are awarded to the account that you've been posting on. You cannot transfer points or purchases to another one of your accounts or even someone else's. Lending is an obvious no, because then you would get the purchase/points back. Those are nonrefundable. Lending is considered cheating and will not be discussed further. Giving away things isn't fair to others, unless your character is leaving and you wish to award your points/purchases to the rest of the community as a whole. (We will then distribute your left over points to every character.)
16. WHAT DOES "IC"/"OOC" MEAN? AND ALL OF THE OTHER ACRONYMS AROUND HERE?
A. "IC" means In-Character and "OOC" means Out-Of-Character. We understand that seeing so many shortened terms may be a bit overwhelming, because then you might not figure out what we're talking about. But, we often use acronyms because we're lazy and it's more efficient to do so. Therefore, we created the Summer Avenue Lingo thread for all of those questionable terms. If you find any others that are not listed, and would like to know, then please contact a staff member. Chances are, we merely missed it and will add it to the Lingo roster immediately.
17. I CAN'T POST 500 WORDS PER POST, IS THAT OKAY?
A. Of course! Not everyone can post a lot at one time. It's completely understandable, which is why we don't have a word restriction. You can use as many words as you want. We recommend writing more than a paragraph, because it brings more detail and depth into the thread. Also, when you're roleplaying with someone else, it's only polite to write about as much as they do. The first post in a thread sets the limit of how many words/paragraphs/etc. should be continually used throughout the thread. If someone posts 800 words, and you reply back with two sentences, it's going to turn them off from completing the thread with you. If you feel that someone's posted too much for you to continue, then be sure to contact the person to let them know. They may either edit their post, create a new one that's shorter, or even refuse to do another thread with you. Expect each answer, so that you're not disappointed if they choose not to roleplay with you.
18. HOW DO I GET IN THE SPOTLIGHT?
A. By being yourself, silly! We choose the best members out there to be in the spotlight, because they deserve it for all of their hard work! If you're one of those people, then obviously you can be in it. Everyone has a chance to try for the spot, because it's a site-wide activity. Each person who wins a spotlight has a reason to be noticed. And, they finally get that when they are awarded with it. Just be yourself, be active, and have fun!
If you have any further questions, do not be afraid to private message a staff member at any time. We don't mind any questions at all. And whatever you ask, it won't change how amazing you are for simply joining the site.
Thanks,
Your SA Staff. <3
